Our Story
Hi, I’m Richard — the face behind Real Estate Rich. I bought my first property in 2017: a run-down duplex I pulled out of foreclosure and completely remodeled. What started as a practical move quickly turned into a career. Since then, I’ve completed eight full-scale remodels, managed both short- and long-term rentals, and built a portfolio that includes everything from handyman work to real estate investing.
Every service I offer — property management, renovation consulting, maintenance through Repairs by Rich, or guidance for new investors — comes from direct, hands-on experience. I’ve been the buyer, the seller, the landlord, the contractor, and the investor. I don’t recommend anything I haven’t done myself.
My approach is simple: be thorough, be honest, and actually add value. In an industry full of people cutting corners or chasing commissions, I aim to stand out by doing things the right way.

In my career I have focused on buying distressed properties that I can add value to. This sounds relatively straightforward but it comes with a lot of nuance - anyone can make a house look beautiful with an unlimited budget. The trick is to add more value than you spend on the project. This requires not only an understanding of what can be done, but how much it will cost and how the same value could be added for less by treaking designs. Some homes offer much better prospects here than others, and the price at which the house is available is key.
I have worked with clients to navigate this path from first looking at homes to determine what the buyer ultimately wants, through making the purchase and finishing the remodel afterward. My goal is to add value to your investment!

I have completed many remodel projects at this point, from small to very encompassing. You can't always hire out all of the work that needs to be done, and I have been very hands on over the years and learned a ton! I ended up spinning off a small handyman service, Repairs by Rich, to get some more use out of all these tools between projects. I am happy to help however I can!

Exterior Upgrades
Handling roofing, siding, windows, and gutters - both through insurance or directly with the homeowner!
In addition to my other real estate endeavors, I also work as a project manager for an exteriors company called Redline Contracting.
To be frank, the roofing and siding industry can be a sketchy place filled with disreputable companies and storm chasers. On top of that, your roof is not an easy thing for most homeowners to inspect. Is that damage you are hearing about real? How is the quality of the new product?
I came to this industry as a customer, the same as you. I had damaged roofs on 7 properties after a big storm in 2017 and vetted several compnies before I chose to use Redline. The first one went well, so I moved forward with the rest. They handled the insurance companies for me and spent over a year fighting in some cases, but eventually got all my insurance claims approved and new roofs put on for very little money out of pocket.
I enjoyed working with Redline and they apparently ennjoyed working with me, because after our projects had closed out I ended up taking a job with them!
